How do I generate a Mirakl API key for B&Q, Argos or Debenhams?

Initials at the top right → Personal settings → API key → Generate. Why the key belongs to your user and not the shop, why Regenerate breaks things, why a separate user per tool is the safe pattern, and what the key can do.

In the seller portal, open your initials at the top right, choose Personal settings, open the API key tab and press Generate. The key belongs to your user account, not to the shop, and it gives full seller access, so create a separate user for each tool that needs one.

Where is the API key in the Mirakl seller portal?

Every Mirakl marketplace (B&Q, Argos, Debenhams, The Range, Tesco Marketplace, Home24) uses the same seller portal layout with the operator's branding. The path, checked on the B&Q portal in September 2026:

  1. 1Sign in to the seller portalThe marketplace's own seller address, not mirakl.com.
  2. 2Click your initials or name at the top rightThe account menu opens.
  3. 3Choose Personal settingsSome portals label it My user settings.
  4. 4Open the API key tabA new account shows “No API key generated”.
  5. 5Actions → GenerateCopy the key at once; it is shown in full only here.

The same steps work on Argos and Debenhams, because the portal is Mirakl's, not the operator's. Only the colours and the address change.

Does the key belong to the shop or to me?

To you. There is no shop-level key. If a colleague generates a key from their own account, it is a different key with their permissions. This matters for two reasons. Anything you connect with your key stops working the day your account is disabled. And if you press Regenerate while a key exists, the old key is cancelled immediately and every tool that used it fails until it gets the new one.

Should I make a separate user for the tool?

Yes. In Settings, open Users and create one user per tool, named after it, with the permissions the tool needs (messages and orders for an inbox). Then generate that user's key. When you stop using the tool, disable the user and the key dies with it, and nothing else you connected is affected.

The pattern also answers the question a colleague will ask in a year: “which key is this tool using?” The user's name is the answer.

What can someone do with my key?

Everything your user can do through the portal: read and send customer messages, read and update orders, change offers and prices. Treat it like the portal password. Store it only in tools that encrypt it, never in a spreadsheet or a chat message, and rotate it by regenerating if it was ever shared in the open. Growstall stores keys encrypted and never shows one again after the setup screen.

How do I know the key works?

Growstall's setup asks for the key, calls the marketplace once to read your shop name and id, and shows both before anything is saved. If the call fails, the key is wrong, the user lacks permissions, or the operator's API host differs (each marketplace has its own address, which the setup fills in for you). The first import then reads the last 30 days of conversations and every order from the last 90 days, and tells you when it is done.

Key takeaways
  • Initials → Personal settings → API key → Generate. Same path on every Mirakl marketplace.
  • The key is the user's, not the shop's; Regenerate cancels the old key at once.
  • One portal user per tool, named after the tool: disable the user to revoke the key.
  • The key can do everything the user can; store it encrypted, never in a chat.

Questions people ask

Do I need a different API key for each marketplace?

Yes. B&Q, Argos and Debenhams are separate Mirakl instances with separate seller accounts, so each has its own portal user and its own key.

Can Mirakl or the operator see that I use a tool?

They see API calls made with your user's key, the same as they see calls from any integration. Marketplace terms allow sellers to use tools with their own key; what they forbid is sharing the key with other sellers.

What happens if I regenerate the key by mistake?

The old key stops working at once. Paste the new key into every tool that used the old one; nothing else is lost.
